Epiphany
My fervent prayer was answered with an Epiphany from Heaven,
Like an electric eel of God’s Truth, she chomped right into me,
Whispering late-night love like an a.m. radio song,
Claw-footed, slick, electrified, she jumped into my tub,
She bounced like a rabbit’s foot into my rubber room,
She’s a red-hot coin dropped plop into my fountain,
Would gracious God play parlor tricks with some idiot-stick’s salvation?
Can a she-devil bring love and mortal inspiration?
Like the phat tail of a comet, I kept my Epiphany to myself,
Like a lava-lamp idea so bright the damn thing’s burning me,
Epiphany’s a thought too big for my tiny little head,
Epiphany’s so ecstatic that she knocks me to my knees,
Epiphany’s the gorgeous truth that sets my spirit free,
Epiphany says, “When I showed you God, did you thank the King for me?”
For Epiphany’s love deep in the night, I sing chain-songs in my stripes,
I’m a black and white lovebird in a gangsta’s paradise,
Epiphany knows she’s never ever too late to be of help,
Epiphany knows I’m fighting and losing a war against myself,
Epiphany’s burning bridges like General Sherman in my mind,
And heating up the passageways so angels can’t escape,
Like the phat tail of a comet, I pinched Epiphany for myself,
She’s a lava-lamp idea so bright the damn thing’s burning me,
Her geometry’s too curvy for my square, pin-striped little head,
Epiphany’s so ecstatic that she knocks me to my knees.
